David Phelps currently serves as the vocal music instructor at Lourdes High School in Rochester, Minnesota. There he directs the choirs, the Center Street Singers (vocal jazz), teaches an accompaniment class, and tries to inspire young musicians every day to use their gifts.
In addition to Lourdes High School, David is also the Traditional Music Director at Peace United Church of Christ,and sings with the Choral Arts Ensemble.
Prior to his time in Rochester, he spent four years touring with the Minneapolis based a cappella group Marcoux Corner. He also spent two and a half years as the Chancel Choir director at the United Methodist Church of Anoka.
A 2006 graduate of Concordia College Moorhead, David was able to follow his dream right out of college and sing professionaly with the aformentioned a cappella group. During this time, David was able to spend quite a bit of time writing music, learning all the aspects of running a business and honing his golf game whenever he had the chance, at the hopes of one day being able to beat his father on the course.
David has always been a supporter of small ensemble singing. During his years at Concordia, David was a co-founding member of two different groups. "Laudibus" (although not a true founder, as another group of the same name was at Concordia 5 years prior to his tenure with the group) was a six-voice mixed ensemble performing music of all types 3-4 times a year for the college campus. This is where David got his "classical" fix.
David was also the co-founder of "Almost Six," a five-man pop a cappella group that performed 7-8 times during the year for the campus and the Fargo-Moorhead community. One might say this is where David got his "contemporary" fix.
David currently resides in Rochester, where he is getting more involved in the music scene every day. He likes to take in concerts whenever he can, and of all different genres of music. He is an avid Minnesota Wild fan, Minnesota Twins fan, and a big fan of Phil Mickelson.
