The Bruce Phelps Barbershop Sight Reading Manual is designed to be a tool to assist singers recognize the rise and fall of melodic lines, and improve their ability to read music given. Sol feg, (a system of using assigned syllables for each pitch of the scale) is the prescribed method but the director or teacher may choose any other system that works. This book is merely a collection of exercises written at an increasing level of difficulty to assist in the sight singing learning process. The teaching of note values is not included in this manual as often rhythmic elements are altered to better enhance the mood and meaning of the music.
